Avocent - Serial Connectivity and Control Solution

Serial Hubs, such as the Avocent ESP Serial Hub, are network-enabled devices, which provide serial ports for use by PC-based applications. These hubs work in concert with PC-based drivers that capture COM/TTY port requests and re-direct those requests to serial peripherals across the network. With Serial Hubs, applications are able to access network-based serial devices as if they were locally attached. Applications, such as retail point-of-sale, building security, medical monitoring, package handling, process control and inventory control, all share one common trait; they involve business critical operations and require non-stop operation. These applications often involve redundant computers and networks. The dual-hosting capabilities of Serial Hubs make them well suited to business critical applications of this nature. In the event of a server failure, it is possible for a backup server to assume control of the IO ports on a serial hub.
